Google Now on Tap is a multi-headed beast. It seeks to devour information across the web and then spit it back to you in easy-to-handle chunks.
A new feature that’s showing up for some users now offers shortcuts to common actions and nearby places.
According to a screenshot from Android Police, you’ll see two different sets of cards when holding down the home button. The top card offers actions, like navigation or creating a reminder based on the content.
The other card suggests nearby places, like bars, cafes, or restaurants. I tried this out on a Galaxy S7 Edge and Nexus 7, but no luck in getting these to appear. If it appears more widely or there’s some killer new feature that pops up, we’ll be sure to let you know.
Google Now on Tap isn’t Android's most useful feature yet, but Google’s been hard at work lately trying to rectify that. The most useful is OCR capabilities in the camera, though again the recognition is a little hit-and-miss. Contextual search is tough, but Google is clearly plugging away at trying to make Now on Tap an essential part of your Android life.
